When it comes to “spicy” liquor, you won’t find anything hotter than this bizarre blend of overproof rum and the world’s hottest pepper, the Carolina Reaper.
The World’s Hottest Shot comes in a deceptively little and innocuous-looking 45ml container, which you can simply pour into a shot glass and suck down in one go. But, before you do so, you should be aware that this is no ordinary beverage. The rum is not only overproof (more than 63 percent alcohol by volume), but it has also been steeped for at least three months with Carolina Reaper peppers. The end result is a barely digestible combination that will very certainly cause you to gag, sweat, and scream in agony as you wait for the fire to stop burning.
The existence of the World’s Hottest Shot was just recently discovered, owing to the popular YouTube programme Hot Dang Show. Roger Trier, the show’s host, was gracious enough to try a dose of this nasty drink so we could get a sense of how hot it is without really touching it. Based on his facial reactions and intense sweating, I doubt I’d ever contemplate doing it.
“This product is highly hot and may cause skin and/or oral irritation. ‘The World’s Hottest Shot’ is solely for adults and should be kept out of the reach of children and pets. If you have a heart condition, respiratory or digestive disorder, or any other serious ailment, do not ingest.
Consume at your own risk,” the product description warns.
Produced and sold by the Wiltshire Chilli Farm in the UK, the World’s Hottest Shot costs £15 ($20) per 45ml bottle, but you could pay me 1000 times that and I wouldn’t touch it. Just seeing those peppers soaking in the alcohol makes me sick to my stomach.
